2014: Love Life. Every Minute of it.

Happy New Year everyone!

It's that time of the year where we make our resolutions. For the past five years, I've set the same goals —eating healthier, going to the gym, study more, etc. — but this year, I simply want to focus on loving life. As a young urban professional living in New York, I became caught up with the social, financial and career woes. I've put so much emphasis on my career that a lot of the times I sacrificed my overall happiness for "success".  After working at the most stressful job for two and a half years, I realized that there's more to life than a career (as cliché as it sounds). I realized that this is something I need to work on and re-learn. So for 2014, my overall goal is to learn how to love every minute of my life with passion and joy and this is how I'm going to do it:

Take Risk
"Life begins at the end of your comfort zone." - Neale Donald Walt
I want to push myself and take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way. I want to have the courage to accept failure and not be ashamed of it. I believe everything happens for a reason and with positive thoughts, hard work and dedication, I know taking a risk is worth more than doing nothing at all.

Network, Network, Network
"Opportunity dances with those already on the dance floor." - H. Jackson Brown
To succeed, you must make connections and build relationships. I realized that it’s all about who you and not what you know (especially living in N.YC). Although I am a very friendly person, I’m a homebody and my close friends are my family. 2014 is the year where I’m going to be the little social butterfly and network like crazy. I want to meet everyone, hear their story, be inspired and create deeper connections.

Travel More
"Travel is the only thing that you buy that makes you richer." - Anonymous
Growing up, I was very well traveled. My parents did a great job exposing my siblings and I to foreign cultures. Now that I'm an adult and I have to pay for my own travel expenses (waaaahh), it's been difficult to travel and experience life in other countries. This year, I'm determined to save money, take the road less traveled and book a trip to a place that I've never been before. Dream destination...Bali!

"We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." - Winston Churchill
My dad always told me to be grateful for what I have and to always pray and help the less fortunate. For years, I've been planning on volunteering but I've never taken action. 2014 will be the year that I finally give back to the community.

Run a 5K
"The real purpose of running isn't to win a race, it's to test the limits of the human heart." - Bill Bowerman
I hate running. Sure, I run for my cardio exercise but in reality, I f*cking hate it. My goal has always been to run a marathon but it ain't my goal this year lol! So I'm taking baby steps. There's a saying that you should learn to love something you hate and by running a 5K, hopefully I learn to love it.

Cook More
"Live life with a little bit of spice." - Anonymous
If you live in New York then you know that your money goes to three things. 1) rent 2) clothes and 3) food. My goal is to start cooking more to live a healthier lifestyle and to save money. I mean...lets be realistic. I have to pay for rent and clothes is a necessity, especially since I’m a lifestyle/fashion blogger, so I have to learn cook more!

Expose and Share
"Find your authentic voice, become vulnerable, and then put yourself out there." - Meredith Brooks
I have a difficult time sharing my thoughts and personal pictures on my social sites -- which is ironic since I want to be a full time blogger. I’ve always been a very private person but I want to find balance and learn how to expose myself appropriately. I want to start sharing more of my personal life to create meaningful content for my blog and build a deeper connection with my readers.

Blog Often
"Some people want it to happen, some wish it could happen, others make it happen." - Michael Jordan
This is a serious struggle for me. I can give you all a million of excuses but I know at the end of the day, they're all excuses.  I know if I want to be a successful blogger I need to step my game up and give 110% to YUPNYC. 2014 will be filled with great content such as: videos, OOTDs, quick and easy recipes, personal experiences, music, events and more!

What are your goals for 2014? Whatever you plan to do, make sure you believe in yourself and you commit to it! Lets do this together and conquer 2014!
