Beyonce Aerobics Class

#lanafierce

Obvi. my Photoshop skills aren't up to par but I thought it was funny...Yes, I crack myself up

Last Monday, I channeled my inner Queen Bey by twerking, bending over, sitting spread eagle on a chair and moving my hips across the dance floor. Trust me, I was looking far from fierce and flawless.

Rewind to two weeks ago, my friends convinced me to sign up for the Beyonce aerobics class at Broadway Bodies — a dance company that incorporates music video choreography with high impact aerobics. Without hesitation, I signed up for the class but was a little nervous since it incorporated Beyonce dance moves with high impact aerobics. First of all, it may look like Beyonce is dancing on stage but that girl is doing a full on Zumba workout. Her choreo. + aerobics = sweaty hot mess.

Fast-forward to last Monday where I'm in a class with 12 other Beyonce fans who are all eager to learn the "Blow" dance moves.

"All right lets get started," said the overly enthusiastic dance instructor.

To warm up, the class danced to Tina Turner's Proud Mary (Rollin Down the River) and being too distracted on keeping up with the instructor, I totally forgot about the dramatic tempo change in the song. What started as graceful movements turned into double time pelvic thrust, booty shaking and head whipping dance moves. Within 5 minutes, I started to profusely sweat and cramp. Damn, I am OUT of SHAPE. I looked over to my friends and they were also red-faced and breathing heavily so I didn't feel as bad.

After the warm up, we were instructed to strike a "sexy" pose against the wall and walk seductively towards a folding chair.  I giggled and smirked the whole time with my friends. Maybe because I'm immature or was too nervous. Possibly both.

"Stop looking at your neighbors and concentrate," yelled the instructor. Ok, that was totally aimed towards me.

Once we started to learn the routine, I became more confident and Lana Fierce was slowly coming out. Very. Slowly.

5, 6, 7, 8. Pat on makeup, caress my face and blow a kiss. Ok I got this.

"Walk around the chair and thrust your hips forward for 4 counts," said the instruction. Ok, enough with the sexy moves!

Five minutes before class ended, half of the class had to perform in front of the other half and vice versa. This is when I realized 1) I need to take more dance classes 2)What Beyonce does on stage is not easy 3) Acting/dancing sexy is harder than it looks and 4) I'm very awkward at trying to look/feel/be sexy (as you can tell from the photos above).

Lesson learned. No more sexy dance classes for me.

  1. You are brave. I probably would have passed out. I work out but not to fast paced music while trying to maintain rhythm and coordination. I hope you are proud that you made it through. It seems like it was also fun though.
