Today marks the 5-year anniversary of the biggest and greatest decision I've made so far in my life: I moved to New York City.
It's crazy how time flies. It feels like yesterday, I was living in a 300 square foot apartment with a roommate, no WiFi nor a dishwasher (first world problems, I know). Even though I moved thousands of miles away from my family and friends to one of the most ruthless cities in America, New York's tough love has transformed me into a smarter and stronger woman:
- I Became Street Savvy: Learning how to dodge people and puddles while still maintaining a strong stride and checking my work e-mails all at the same damn time
- I Adapted Quickly to the City: Exchanged all of my west coast clothes for snow boots, down jackets, gloves, and wool socks
- I Learned How to Work Smarter Not Harder: A.k.a Seamless became my best friend
- I Found My Voice: I'm really great at hailing cabs
In all seriousness, New York has made me the woman I am today. I'm confident and aggressive, yet humble. Every time I feel like I have a grasp on life or have an "I've made it" moment, New York inevitably finds a way to shit on me — but I love it! I guess that's the meaning of tough love right?
Cheers to 5 and many more years to come!
