If you haven’t heard, Vetements is the brand of 2016.
You may have seen Vetements long silhouette raincoat, uneven hemmed jeans, or yellow DHL branded tee dominating the streets at PFW S/S ‘16 and thought to yourself, “What’s up with this ve-te-ments brand?”
Pronounced vent-mohn, Creative Director Demna Gvasalia’s sudden and explosive rise in fashion is the result of reworking traditional pieces into streetwear and high fashion designs – thus the ultimate ‘it’ brand for ‘it’ girls/boys/Hypebeasts/fuck boys was born.
The cult fashion label is continuing to push the envelope with their highly anticipated presentation at Paris Fashion Week. This week, Vetements will reveal their collaboration with 18 unprecedented brands including Carhartt, Levi's, Hanes, Manolo Blahnik, Eastpak, Canada Goose, Lucchese, Mackintosh, Dr. Martens, Reebok, Church’s, Alpha Industries, Champion, Kawasaki, Schott, Comme des Garçons, Brioni, and Juicy Couture.
Brands have collaborated in the past but nothing like this. While Gvasalia designed the whole collection (sourcing from the collaborators' signature materials), the brands will handle all the manufacturing in their own factories.
To kill some time while we're waiting for the collaboration (or shall I say collaborations) of the century, check out Vetement's Spring/Summer 2016 runway show.
